Install VNC and xfce

    sudo apt-get install vnc4server
    sudo apt-get install xfwm4 xfce4-session

Configure VNC

  • vi /etc/init/vnc-server.conf
    # vnc-server.conf

    start on runlevel [2345]
    stop on runlevel [016]

    post-start script
            su MY_USER -c '/usr/bin/vnc4server :2 -geometry 1024x768'
    end script

    post-stop script
            su MY_USER -c '/usr/bin/vnc4server -kill :2'
    end script

    #End of File

  • sudo start vnc-server

  • vi /home/MY_USER/.vnc/xstartup

    unset SESSION_MANAGER

VNC applet

Known issue that password should be exposed in html. If this is not done applet crashes with access denied exception.

  • Downlaod zip with jar: http://www.tightvnc.com/download.php
  • Extract jar from zip and copy /home/MY_USER/public_home/vnc
  • create /home/MY_USER/public_home/vnc/index.html
